Financial Freedom = Delayed Gratification
Topic  Home > Business and Economy > Economy > Financial

What is delayed gratification? Do you stop to wonder? It appears that the self storage industry is growing out of control. Even worse, it is people who have a place called home that are using these places to a great extent. I was listening to an interesting program on the radio that was discussing this issue. I must say that I was surprised and shocked.

I always thought that these places were used by people in transit. But, if people have the need to rent these places on a long term basis, I have to wonder if the American culture of wanting everything now, has gone a bit too far.

I was discussing this with one of my friends recently. Guess, I touched on a weak spot here. He admitted that he had been spending $200 every month for the past six years on renting a little space in the neighborhood. I asked him what he had stored in there. He said "this and that, I don't even remember. I have not even taken a look in the past four years.". You know that $200/month invested wisely could have made a lot of money for him. I think that he will be clearing out that place and giving his "wealth" away to the Salvation Army soon.

What do you think about the consumer credit growing without control. Is this something that each one of us should be concerned about?

I am not saying that we should not enjoy our lives or live in total misery. Contrary to that, I like to live an excellent life and have the things that I need. But, that does not mean that I should not care about when I get what I get. I think that it is easy to get in debt, but getting out is a whole other story.

We all deserve true Financial Freedom, but only when we are willing to pay the price and make the necessary sacrifices.

We should feel good in getting the rewards that we have earned, rather than borrowing it from someone at an exhorbitant price.

MAKE THAT 3 BILLION

My previous article I wrote called "One Point Two Billion" attracted quite some attention, the downloads through all the article syndication services has been astronomical compared to any other articles I wrote which are still with them.

It seems the numbers game is popular not only with the accountancy profession, but with just about anyone running a website who is interested in more sales from anywhere in the world.

The internet has proved to be the great leveller, even a grandmother I know has made hundreds of thousands of dollars just from publishing a couple of e-books, business of that magnitude is not now confined to those people with large sums of investment capital, teams of accountants, planners, secretaries, swanky offices etc. Anyone, even you, can make money regularly on the internet, just aim for a goal and 'go for it!'

The costs of setting up have never been lower, the ease of making web pages has never been easier, ( I make my web pages in Notepad, which is on every Windows computer), and the potential audience for your web pages has never been larger. So what are you waiting for?

The sheer mountain of information available through e-books on any subject and especially on setting up a business on the internet would take you a lifetime to read through, so just be selective and read only what you need to know about and get started in that business. Businesspeople who have 'been there-done that', have written up an enormous amount of e-books to pass on their knowledge and experience, pitfalls to avoid, how to spend your advertising dollars, and just about everything else you need to know about to ensure success. So profit from their experience, avoid the pitfalls, do what they say you should do, and you should be in a profitable business in no time, just the way they did it. No large sums of investment are needed, just time and dedication.

If you provide an excellent service that benefits all your clients, they will recommend you to their friends,if on the other hand you want to be a 'scammer' and a 'fly by night' operator determined to 'rip-off' as many people as possible, you will come to grief. You will find your web hosting account rapidly terminated, your e-mail account likewise, and your name plastered all over the forums and newsgroups. You get out of life exactly what you put in.

There are still mysteries about life we still don't understand and this is the reason we come to grief, but on the other hand, if you work for the benefit of others, this 'mystery of life', for want of a better name, cuts in and helps us along, we go with the flow and good things start to happen.

I could tell you of many experiences I have had, both good and bad, which I have learnt a great deal from, but space precludes that, maybe one day.

All right, you win, I will tell you of one particular incident more recently and then move on with this article.

I carried a St.Christopher medallion on a gold chain in my wallet for six years, given to me by the wife of a good friend overseas, 'it will keep you safe' she said. I received a new wallet for a Christmas present and changed everything in the old wallet into the new one, except the St. Christopher medallion, it was looking a bit 'worse for wear' and I decided to put it in the cupboard.

That day I lost my mobile phone!

For two whole days I felt a loss which can only be described as a 'bereavement'. I had lost touch with the network I was attached to night and day, seven days a week, I felt bereft. I did not know if someone was trying to ring me, whether something was urgent I had to know about, my sense of loss was total.

Was this to do with the St. Christopher medallion?

I thought surely not.

That was on the Tuesday, by Thursday morning I had decided to put that 'good luck' St. Christopher medallion into my new wallet.

My mobile phone turned up via a 'good samaritan' who would take no money as a reward whatsoever.

I was never more pleased to see my mobile phone.

So what happened here?

Was it something to do with the St. Christopher medallion?

Was it because I had 'bad thoughts' that it was the 'worse for wear' so discard it as inconsequential?

I don't know the answer.

There have been too many such incidents in my life it would take volumes to relate the details.

We don't know these 'mysteries of life' but one thing is important -keep a positive outlook to everything and everyone and good things will happen for you.

It's difficult to visualize how many people that are out there who can log on to your website. It's also difficult to understand what kinds of people they are, what background and education they have had. Why they are logging on to your new site. What do they expect to see, or learn, or buy?

How will they benefit from visiting your site?

Will they buy a good product, or learn something, or get some amusement or entertainment from it?

Here are some figures to think about:-

1. Adults aged 65 and over are the fastest growing age group taking to the internet, according to Nielsen/Netratings. The number of adults from around the world over 65 who use the internet has grown by 25% over the past twelve months, with 9.6 million now accessing the web. The number of female seniors has seen the most significent growth, jumping 30%. Male seniors jumped by 20%.

2. 44% of Western European internet users shopped online during 2003. (Jupiter Research).

3. 55% of the population of Spain are expected to be using Broadband internet by the end of this year. (Jupiter Research).

4. 50% of the U.S. population expect to be using Broadband internet by 2008.(Jupiter Research)>

5. 1 in 5 internet users download music according to Nielsen.

6. Online shoppers in Australia for DVDs. is now the fifth fastest growing online purchase category after travel, concert tickets, accomodation, and books, growing by 30% (ACNielsen Consult).

7. 22% of U.S. consumers shop online at work.

8. 67% of 12 to 24 year olds online in the U.S. have downloaded music from the net.

9. 40 million Americans have downloaded music from the net, equivalent to one-fifth of the U.S.

It's not hard to see that the net is a hive of activity and people are paying for things they want, music in particular.

Content has not been a thing that people have been keen to pay for except sex sites, one of the most successful ecommerce businesses of all time. Newspapers online charge for content with some success, but a survey by Jupiter Media Metrix claims that 70% of adult online users don't see why they should pay for content. The researchers project that revenues will only grow to $US5.8 billion by 2006 for online content! Of that revenue the highest earners will be "Audio and Video Entertainment and Games'. This survey also shows that 42% of net users grudgingly expect that over time they will have to pay for content on the net.

So, which way will you go?

Will your site be a subscription only site charging a monthly fee to access the content? Look at the history of one such subscription only site called Salon Magazine. They changed to a subscription only site and over the first six months only signed up 25,000 users, out of 3.8 million users per month who used the site previously.

Statistics are a wonderful thing as many accountants know too well. Will you be guided by all the statistics available through all the research companies out there when you build your website?

Yes, the numbers game attracts a lot of attention has I stated at the beginning of this article. Always remember though, that all these users in these stats are only human beings and want, need, and desire pretty much the same things you do, and set up your website accordingly. There are enough humans out there to visit your website, whatever you decide to do.

Oh, and did I mention?

The worlds population of humans is now 3 BILLION!

Through The Looking Glass

My mother used to take me along when she visited an old lady down a cobbled lane who had a crystal ball on her dining room table and a pack of playing cards. My mother was superstitious and really believed a lot of what she was told by the old lady. She wanted to know what the future held not only for herself but for me, her only little boy. I was about five or six years old at the time, and used to gaze at the reflected images upon the crystal ball of the sunlit window behind me and the lace curtains, although the old lady would place her hands at either side of the crystal ball and say that she could see the future and told of what she saw, I could only see the reflection of that window with the lace curtains. The old lady was either a genuine medium or was just guessing what my mother wanted to hear to keep her coming back for more of the same, and make herself a small income to supplement her pension.

We all of us are seekers of knowledge to enhance our lives and most of us would admit we are a little superstitious but may not believe that anyone could foretell the future. If we really needed to know the future as regards our business, in particular, we would look at 'trends', and facts and figures on charts and graphs, so we may be able to predict where our business is going, we none of us would trust in an old lady with a crystal ball. If we wanted to be successful in business we would arm ourselves with sufficient knowledge to make it happen, and where else to look for knowledge but on the internet where all manner of business books are online, written by experienced business people who have 'been there-done that'.

The internet is the first place people now go to find something out, whether it be for personal use or for business use, for there is a mind-boggling explosion of knowledge on the internet, most of which we are never going to read, simply because we would need to live to 900 years old to be able to find the time and that's supposing no more knowledge gets added in the meantime. In that 900 years, inevitably, a lot of the information will go out of date, so we need to live another 900 years to catch up on the 'updates'. This could go on forever, for there would always be more knowledge coming along we need to keep track of.

Yes, the internet is a wonderful depository of knowledge, the knack of using it to full advantage is to keep trawling and discovering new web sites and then having found some we like, for fresh new content, regular updates, etc., bookmark them in your browser, so you can find them again.

None of us are going to live to 900 years, so we need to maximize our time on the internet, for there are approximately three billion web pages indexed by Google, and more are being added every minute of every day, even while you have been reading this.

Six Easy White-Listing Ways...Stop Losing Important Emails!
Topic  Home > Computers and Internet > Computers > Training
(c) Copyright S. Kumar 2003 http://www.learnhomebusiness.com ---------------------------------

Are you dead sure about receiving of all the important emails that is sent to you?

"The chances are that you are among the 42% of the people who ARE NOT receiving the genuine emails and newsletters that you requested for".

Why this is so?

Increasingly, ISPs are using filtering systems to try and keep S/p/a/m out of customers' inboxes. Being automated, these filters are not perfect. Many authentic emails get caught in these filters.

Sometimes, they accidentally filter that "All-Important-Email" you were waiting for. And you have no way to know which of your emails is filtered. The end result is, you end up losing critical info that may prove to be vital to your business.

Is there a way to solve the problem?

Fortunately for all of us, there exist simple solutions. But the action has to come from you to make sure that these critical communications reaches your mailbox - Unblocked.

Six of the most common and easy solutions are given below. It's simple to implement.

______________________ #1. *The HOTMAIL User*: You can 'Safe List' an email ID in hotmail. Here's how:

1. Choose the 'Options' tab from the top 2. Select 'Safe List' ( Given under the head -Mail Handling-) 3. Now type the email address that you want messages to be received without filtering in the one line form. 4. Now choose 'Add' _________________ #2 *The AOL User*: Place an email ID in the 'Address Book' in AOL. Here's how:

1. Go to Keyword Mail Controls 2. Select the screen name to which the newsletter is send e.g. "HomeBiz Tip E-Mag" 3.Now choose 'Customize Mail Controls' For This Screen Name 4.For AOL v7.0, include in the section: "exclusion and inclusion parameters", the domains from which email is send. For e.g. @learnhomebusiness.com, @learnhomebusiness.net

For AOL v8.0, choose "Allow email from all AOL members, email addre^sses and domains"

5. Choose 'Next'. 6. Choose "Save" displayed at the bottom.

Important Note On AOL 9.0 : AOL 9.0 has become more complicated. The best way is to place an email ID to the "Person I know" buddy list. All mail you receive from this email ID will pass through the filters. So, make sure that when you join for a newsletter, it is ADDED to your buddy list. ____________________ #3 *The YAHOO User*: Correct the 'Bulk' Folder in your Yahoo. Here's how:

1. Newsletters gets mistakenly filtered to your Yahoo 'Bulk' folder. Go to your 'Bulk' folder; locate the filtered newsletter and choose, "this is not S^pam", next to the "From" field.

Also, to ensure that you do not miss on important emails to your Yahoo Inbox, do these steps:

1. Open your Yahoo mailbox 2. Choose 'Mail Options' (Given at the right corner) 3. Choose 'Filters' 4. Choose 'Add ' button. 5. Now, in the top row - From header: Choose 'contains'. 6. Type the domain from which the newsletter is sent. For e.g. learnhomebusiness.com 6. Finally, at the bottom -Move the message to: Choose Inbox. 7. Choose 'Add Filter' button.

____________________ #4. *For OTHER Users*: Meant for email programs like Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora and Netscape Mail. Here's how:

Inform your ISP or the person responsible for your email that you want to receive all communications from a particular domain.

For e.g. a member of http://www.learnhomebusiness.com, asks them to white-list the eZine "HomeBiz Tips-EMag' so that he can continue to receive our Zero-cost products without a break. __________________________ #5. *For Own Filter Software*: Many times the filter software installed in the computer is the culprit. Here's how to prevent it.

Look for "Options" in the filter software that you have installed in your computer. Then give permissions for all emails from a particular email ID or domain. _____________________________________________________ #6. *Two Additional Tips To Prevent Loosing Important Emails*:

Tip #1 : You may be currently receiving all your email messages without a hitch. But, it's still advisable to white-list and prevent future problems.

Tip #2 : No matter what the email system you are currently using, add the email ID of your opt-in Newsletters' to the 'Address Book' of your particular email system.

Currently, white-listing is the ONLY way to ensure that you receive all your important emails. Do not ignore this important aspect of email communication.

From a personal angle, the major chunk of what I learned so far is from small, nifty newsletters that arrives in my mail box with a welcome smile. I can never block these little capsules of vital info.

If I do, I am blocking myself from the 'tit-bits' that adds to my knowledge. Ultimately, Integrating these 'tit-bits' into my website http://www.learnhomebusiness.com, keeps it live and current - Everyday.

5 unorthodox email subject tricks -500% more responses!
Topic  Home > Computers and Internet > Internet > Email Publishing
5 unorthodox email subject tricks -500% more responses! (c) Copyright S. Kumar 2003 http://www.learnhomebusiness.com

If your email subject line doesn't get read -Nothing gets read!

And it is worse now!

**DoubleClick Q2 E-Mail Trends Report, published in September 2002, reveals that e-mail marketing click-through rates DROPPED in Quarter2-2002 to 4.9% from 6.8% in Quarter1-2002! These findings are based on 1.7 billion emails sent out by hundreds of clients. The report also reveals a bounce-back rate of 12.6%! -An all time HIGH in Quater2-2002.**

The writing on the wall is clear! email marketing strategies has to be redefined and innovated.

And the FIRST STEP begins with the subject line! All the hard work that you have put up in setting up your email becomes useless if it is deleted.

The 5 different methods listed here will add a strong psychological punch to the subject line which will increase the chances of your message getting opened!

These suggestions are based on Research Data and my own personal experience where I get a click-through ratio of over 8%.

*#1: Keep The Subject Line Short And Different:*

The shorter the email subject line-the better. Add a little mystery to it. If possible associate it with money.

For e.g.: " John's $ 49.99 Refund! The above subject line is what I use after my 5th follow up for upgrading my eBook the Deluxe version.

Inside the body of the message the first sentence is the exact 'refund message' he will be getting if the customer choose for a refund after upgrading. I have been receiving a click through ratio of about 7.5 to the URL, http://www.learnhomebusiness.com/upgradeglobal.htm

*#2: Innovative Personalization On The Subject Line:*

Note the above subject line again! "John's $ 49.99 Refund!

If the customer name is john, It is better to say "John's $49.99 Refund! --Than to Say, John your $49.99 Refund

This works best on your 3rd follow up onwards. Or if your are giving something valuable like a Free Gift you can use it on the First email. e.g. "John's Free Gift!

*#3: 'RE: In Subject Line Is Very Important To People:*

Is there a different way to use RE:?

Consider these two examples,

The usual one - Re: John, your income stream! The one I use - John -re: Your Income Stream!

The second one is the one that I use to drive traffic to the 50%-commission affiliate program for all my 38 info products. Again I get a click through ratio of 7.5% to the URL, http://www.learnhomebusiness.com/affiliate.htm

*-#4: Use Quotation " In The Subject Line:*

Using quotation in the subject line arrests a persons eyes on the subject line. e.g.: "John's $49.99 Refund!

*-#5: People Like To Be Updated, Upgraded And Remain Current:*

Use the word "update" and "upgrade" intelligently in the subject line.

For e.g.: "John's important update. Open!

Whenever I add a new affiliate program, an email with the above subject line goes out to my valuable customers. The response rate has been good enough -especially when I am inviting them to join under me.

*Additional Tip*

You can use the personalization suggestion given above even in your autoresponder. For eg if the personalization tag given to you by your autoresponder is , all you have to do is Insert:

"'s $49.99 Refund! --which will read as "John's $49.99 Refund! (Watch " and 's)

I hope this article to be of use to you. There are many more 'email subject tricks' to be discussed which I will be covering in a future article as I have already stolen a major chunk of your valuable time!
