Focus
Focus by Catherine Pulsifer

To have a goal is like having a road map. It shows you where to go, and where not to go. Would you begin a trip to an unknown city without first looking at a map? Probably not.

Amazingly though, many people conduct their lives without any personal road map to success. Goals are like a map. They help us determine where we want to end up, and give us personal direction on which to focus our energy.

Once you decide what it is you want, set your sights and start taking action to achieve it. This "action" is the commitment on your part. And, once you are committed to a goal, really committed, problems are short term. With your entire "focus" on your goal, you will reach levels of achievement that you never thought possible.

Without goals, you will end up going nowhere, or, you will end up following someone else's map! Develop your map today - set your goals and focus!

"The sun's energy warms the world. But when you focus it through a magnifying glass it can start a fire. Focus is so powerful!" Alan Pariser

Have a Life-changing Experience
Can you really plan a life-changing experience, or do they just happen? Are they accident's of fate, inherited life forces, or can they be experiences the we choose?

A brief story. Soon after graduating I left home for adventure and discovery, and perhaps a life-changing experience. My mind was virtually a blank canvas for experience to paint a path for my future. I travelled afar and engaged in different employments in different places. I met many interesting people, in interesting paces on my journey to discover what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. A year passed. I'd had a fantastic time, but, I hadn't really discovered where my future lay. I returned home and took up employment related to my degree WITHOUT a passion. To cut a long story short, despite moving around the world I continued in unfulfiling employment and wondered how things could change.

So many times have I heard reports of devastating experiences or holidays of a lifetime but are they really? Is a life-changing experience one that shapes a moment in time or is it an experience that we savour day in, day out, for the rest of our lives. Isn't the real experience the present and our thoughts we want to capture, and remember, and become a foundation for our existence.

It was some years before I really manage to to grasp my life to make it a 'life-changing' experience that we all seek. You can explore the world in search of life's riches but until you're really appreciate that you can mould your existence, you may not find that life-changing experience. Take time to explore your mind and discover who you are, and who you want to be, before you leave home. You'll then be on a journey that you can savour with a passion.

How Do You Measure Success?
Success isn't all that it's cracked up to be... I'm serious! Stop laughing!

Well, success is important, very important in fact, depending on how you measure it. I going to give you an example of an imaginary "successful" individual. Let's call him Fred.

Fred starts work each day at 6am. Fred works 11 hours per day and travels one hour to get home. He is highly successful in his job and is the highest paid and most productive widget salesrep in the northern hemisphere.

Fred has a wife at home with their two children aged five and seven. Fred doesn't see his children much because he leaves before they are awake and they are almost ready for bed when he gets home. On the weekends he is unable to spend much time with his wife or children because he is networking and playing golf with the town's largest widget retailers.

Fred is extremely successful at his job. As we learned above, there is no widget rep in the northern hemisphere that comes close to him. The trouble with Fred is, however, he only measures success in dollars and cents. He doesn't see success as an all-encompassing journey.

Fred's children would much prefer he was a failed widget salesrep that was good at helping them with their homework. Fred's wife would much prefer he didn't always make bonus and occasionally lingered over a romantic dinner with her. He doesn't need to be good at the homework or dinner, he just needs to be there.

The trouble with success is we've become so fixated with being super human work junkies, we've forgotten what really matters most- being successful in our lives and relationships with our family and friends.

My advice is, next time you consider success, consider whether you're giving your family and friends all they need emotionally.

How To Maintain Your Weight Loss Motivation
Topic  Home > Health > Fitness
Home > Health > Nutrition
One of the hardest aspects of getting yourself into shape, is maintaining the motivation you need to achieve your weight loss goals. Just about anyone will lose some of their enthusiasm, a month or so into a weight loss program. I have learned a few things that keep me motivated and dedicated to achieving my goals. They have helped me tremendously and I think they will help you as well.

Here a just a few of the many things I do to motivate myself.

Weigh yourself once a week: I weigh myself at least a few times a week. In the beginning of your program once is plenty because you don’t want to discourage yourself. The reason I weigh myself once a week is because it can be easy to look in the mirror and justify, in your head, that you aren’t gaining any weight. If you look at a scale every week, you know for sure whether you need to make changes or not.

Keep a picture of the heavier version of yourself in plain sight: I have a picture of me at my son’s baptism next to my bed. I was 20-25 pounds heavier in that picture than I currently am. This gives me a chance everyday to see what I don’t want to slip back into. It reminds me why I lost weight and keeps me from sliding back into old habits. Also, it will just remind you of how far you have come and how much better you look now.

Visualize everyday: You should visualize everyday, how you want yourself to look. If you have achieved your goals then just imagine yourself doing some new things, in your new body. This really does help. I try to visualize myself everyday doing something that I plan on doing in the future. This can help with goals in any aspect of your life. I used to do this while running, when I first started my program. I would picture myself mentally, running and looking the way I wanted to look.

Set your sights farther and higher:

If you have already reached your ideal weight, then you should set some new goals or standards. If you don’t, you will probably fall back into old habits. It is harder to maintain something, then to achieve something new. So if you have reached your ideal weight, then why not set a goal to add some muscle. Or maybe, set a goal to get absolutely ripped. In perfect shape, like you never imagined you could. Look high and far, set your goal and then reach it. Nothing will keep you more motivated then setting and achieving new goals.

Those are just a few of the ways that I use to keep myself motivated. There are thousands more. To find other motivating ideas just do some searching on the internet. You can find thousands of articles and websites dedicated to weight loss and health.

Being healthy and losing weight can change every area of your life. It is amazing, the possibilities we begin to see, after reaching an achievement such as weight loss. Don’t lose the momentum. Keep it turned up and start using it to help you with other areas of your life. But most of all, never give up. There will always be obstacles in any thing you do in life. Just don’t use them as excuses to hold you back from achieving the ultimate freedom you deserve.

Many Troubles in My Time
Many Troubles in My Time by Catherine Pulsifer

"I've seen many troubles in my time, only half of which ever came true." Mark Twain

Worrying about issues unnecessarily can cause both psychological and physical distress. A lot of times, what we worry about never comes true.

When you find yourself worrying, ask yourself, "Can I do anything about it?" If you can, then take the required action to eliminate the worry. If you can't do anything about it, or if it is beyone your control, then don't waste your time worrying!

When you worry, you are not focused on solutions. You are allowing unproductive negative thinking to overrule your positive thinking. Worrying never leads to any productive results, it only reinforces the negative.

The only thing you will ever accomplish by worrying is to elevate your stress level.
